The “Tecolote 2” XXL Mexican hammock: Mexican elegance and tradition

Discover our test XXL Mexican Hammock, nicknamed the “Tecolote 2”, in homage to the emblematic bird of Mexican culture. According to local legends, the owl is considered a divine messenger, bringer of wisdom and good fortune. Our hammock embodies this cultural heritage while offering you the must-have Mexican hammock.

A treasure from Chiapas, cradle of Mexican craftsmanship

It never hurts to point out that weaving a handmade Mexican hammock is complex work. Each of our hammocks is meticulously handcrafted in the Chiapas regions of southern Mexico. To build these Mayan hammocks, our artisans use threads of various colors using needles and wooden frames called looms.

The comfort of the XXL Mexican hammock: Extra large dimensions

Our EXTRA LARGE Mexican hammock measures 2.20 meters wide for a total length of 4 meters. These dimensions are usual in Mexico and are often the guarantee of real Mexican hammocks. This hammock is the result of a particular weaving technique, and few weavers in Mexico are capable of creating what they call there: a Queen Maya.

The first hammocks were made from agave

There was a time when Chiapas was renowned for the production of Ixtle and Henequen, plants that were used to weave the first hammocks. We wrote an article more than a year ago about Don Gustavo, a 90-year-old Mexican craftsman who continued to make Ixtle fiber hammocks as in the old days. Touched by our article, his great-nephew wrote to us to express his pride that we were talking about his “grandfather”. In February 2023, he contacted us to report his death. 100% nylon: robust and suitable for all climates

Made from 100% nylon, the same material used in making fishing nets, our hammock is designed to withstand all weather conditions. Whether it's sunny days, pouring rain or freezing temperatures, this hammock is your ideal outdoor companion, summer and winter. However, to preserve its beauty, we recommend that you store it sheltered and dry after use.

Tips for optimal use

To get the most out of your hammock, avoid overtightening it. A tightly stretched hammock can lose its flexibility, making the position uncomfortable. Remember, your hammock should be banana shaped to provide maximum diagonal comfort. Sustainability and freshness

Unlike cotton, which can deteriorate over time from sun and moisture, nylon offers increased durability without compromising comfort. In the hot regions of Mexico, the hammock is often used as a replacement for the bed, thanks to its ventilated net allowing optimal air circulation, thus offering an unrivaled feeling of freshness and well-being.

Your purchase rewards the work of the artisans

By choosing our Mexican hammocks, you not only support traditional Mexican art, but you also help support families who make a living from selling hammocks. Each purchase allows communities of artisans to perpetuate their ancestral know-how. A gift to give? discover our Hamac del Sol gift card!

Did you know?

The most common mistake beginners make is positioning their body according to the length of the hammock. The correct way is to lie down diagonally (you should form an angle between 30 and 45 degrees). This is quite convenient for watching TV while swinging but the main advantage is that it allows the hammock to adapt to your body so that you have that feeling of floating while being well supported, without any point of pressure.
