XL “Tulum” Mexican hammock: A handmade Mexican hammock

Our hammocks are of Mayan origin, designed in the south of Mexico, from a socially committed associative project. Each piece is handmade at home. It takes the craftsman 10 days to complete an XL hammock (or matrimonial as they say in Mexico), 15 days for an XXL hammock.

A traditional craft and source of income

The hammock is an object of comfort, but also a decorative object in its own right. According to Mexican tradition, making a hammock has always been seen as a leisure activity. However, this “lucrative hobby” allows many households to access additional income. This activity struggles to be seen as a profession, even despite the houses transformed into workshops by the weaving looms and the hammocks that we find inside and outside the homes. To go further: What future for hammock sellers in Mexico.

The art of hammock weaving

You will have guessed it, weaving a hammock is an art, and this “makeshift bed” must respect strict criteria, starting with its weight: For a quality individual hammock (size M/L), you must count on a weight approximately 1 kg. For matrimonial hammocks (XL), their weight must be around 1.3 kg and 1.6 kg at the time of weighing. If this is not the case, then the hammock is good to throw away, due to lack of quality... It may not seem like it, but making an authentic Mexican hammock requires real work of art.

The advantages of nylon for resistance

Mexican hammocks are famous for their quality and durability. One of the reasons for this durability lies in the choice of material. Unlike many cotton hammocks, our hammocks are made from nylon. Nylon is a material that is resistant to weather, moisture and fading from sunlight. It does not rot and remains in excellent condition even after prolonged outdoor exposure. This strength of nylon makes it a superior choice for hammocks intended for outdoor use. After all, it's not for nothing that Mexican hammocks are considered the best in the world.

The hammock, a global tradition

Did you know? In addition to Mexico, there is a wide range of countries where the hammock has been used since ancient times, these countries are: Argentina, Uruguay, Haiti, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Peru, Bolivia, Honduras, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Ecuador, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Panama and Venezuela.

This hammock is perfect for creating a little relaxation area, surrounded by woods and plants. Add cushions and voila!
