Artisanal manufacturing in the north of Colombia

We are proud to present our Hammock L “Pompon” Ecru. This fair trade hammock is made by talented artisans from the municipality of San Jacinto Bolívar, Colombia. The weavers of this region have preserved the tradition of hammock making for generations. It is partly thanks to their expertise that we can offer you this model.

An L hammock entirely hand-woven

This Colombian artisanal hammock is hand-woven. It is made, thread by thread, on a (vertical) loom. The arms of this hammock (also called heads, ropes, hangers) are also made by hand to guarantee a quality finish. This hammock is made in one piece. It has no finishing or sewing, and that's what makes it authentic. Find out more: Differences between traditional and industrial hammocks: Beware of scams.

Ideal dimensions for 1 person

This hammock for one person measures 1.50 meters in width by 3.50 meters in total length. It is perfect for one person, and can be used indoors or outdoors. We do not recommend using it frequently outdoors and bringing it indoors in case of bad weather. Additionally, it is a heavy hammock that will take a long time to dry if you leave it in the rain. It is a quality hammock that must be treated accordingly. To be used at home or sheltered if possible.

The Colombian hammock: A cultural history

Anchored in pre-Columbian history, the Colombian hammock transcends the centuries as a cultural symbol. Indeed, it was once essential for Caribbean farmers who used it to give life, to transport the sick and even to end their days. Today, some indigenous populations still perpetuate these traditions. Thanks to our work as an importer, this 1000-year-old heritage is brought into our urban environment. For Hamac del Sol, these authentic hammocks embody a marriage between tradition and modernity.

Experience having a luxury hammock in your home

Placed on a balcony, in a bedroom or on a terrace, it becomes a piece of choice offering you calm and relaxation. Our guide “Our 8 tips for choosing your hammock” offers a practical overview for those wishing to explore the world of hammocks. As we often say, the hammock is much more than just a piece of furniture; it is a bridge between past and present, connecting eras and cultures through a thread woven with passion and skill. If you want to create an even more elegant and playful atmosphere, we recommend combining our XL "Tunja" hammock chair.

The hammock was used in the navy

Few people know it, but after the discovery of the hammock by Christopher Columbus, the first to discover its usefulness were sailors. The hammock, or "wank" as it was called at the time, had several advantages. It allowed a makeshift bed to be easily attached, making it easier to clean the soldiers' rooms. By following the boat's movements, it greatly alleviated seasickness for novice sailors. In the event of violent shaking, it made it possible to reduce them, thus reducing the violence of the movements that could disrupt sailors' sleep.

The benefit of the hammock to soothe children

The natural rocking of the hammock soothes children by promoting a good heart rate and better blood circulation. Installing a hammock on your terrace or in your living room provides a safe space where children can climb and descend freely, meeting their socio-emotional need for comfort. Don't hesitate to install it close to the ground for little ones!
