The XXL Premium “Medellin” hammock is a “double-sided” hammock 1.80m wide. It is made by hand in extra fine yarn. Coming from fair trade, it is entirely "sculpted" on both sides. Only the Wayuu Indians and certain artisans from San Jacinto are capable of making this type of hammock. Indeed, this requires a very specific manufacturing technique. Note that there is a good chance that you will pass it on to your children.

The origins of the hammock

The hammock has its origins in the culture of the Taino people. These people occupied the island of Cuba when the Spanish arrived at the beginning of the 16th century. The Tainos were also present on other Caribbean islands such as Hispaniola (present-day Haiti and the Dominican Republic), Puerto Rico, Jamaica and Trinidad. Living in villages located deep in the forests, they used hammocks made from cotton. The term "hammock" itself comes from the Taino language.

The hammock: Ideal position for Restful Sleep, recommended by Dr. Steven Park

According to an article on the Huffington Post blog, Dr. Steven Park, member of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, recommended the ideal position for sleeping: Lying on your back, with your head slightly elevated by 10 to 30%. You may have felt in this position if you've ever used a hammock, because it puts you in exactly this position: lying on your back with your head slightly elevated. Unlike a bed, which allows for all kinds of less healthy sleeping positions, a hammock encourages you to adopt an optimal sleeping position. Even babies and children love the flexibility and width of Colombian hammocks.
