Dionaea muscipula / Venus flytrap / Dionaea

A carnivorous plant about 10 cm high with formidable traps, the Venus Flytrap or Dionaea is native to North America; it grows exclusively in the peat bogs of North and South Carolina.

From October to March, the Dionaea muscipula / Venus flytrap takes on a smaller form, the erect leaves die and are replaced by shorter carnivorous leaves which remain on the ground.
